1. Ensuring Research Integrity - Research, Development, and Demonstration
ORI's Ensuring Research Integrity - Research, Development, and Demonstration Grant Program supports projects that undertake the development and implementation of innovative practical approaches, tools, and/or resources that improve practices related to research integrity and compliance with 42 C.F.R. Part 93.
This notice of funding opportunity announcement solicits applications for projects that will: 1) conduct research, to address one or more of the four focus areas identified below, related to ensuring research integrity and compliance with 42 C.F.R. Part 93; 2) develop innovative approaches/tools/resources based on the results of this research; and 3) demonstrate the impact and/or effectiveness of these approaches/tools/resources.
The FY 2023 focus areas are: 1) transparency in the reporting of research; 2) effective communication between researchers for the purpose of avoiding, mitigating, and resolving issues related to authorship and/or collaboration; 3) handling allegations of research misconduct under 42 C.F.R. Part 93; or 4) interventions to address issues related to research culture and climate (e.g., overly-competitive environments, toxic workplaces, bullying, harassment, etc.) that can negatively impact the integrity, conduct, quality, and reliability of research.
ORI anticipates funding three to six awards of between $75,000 and $150,000 in total costs (direct plus indirect) per year, for a project period not to exceed two years (two 12-month project periods and budget periods).

2. Ensuring Research Integrity - Conferences
ORI's Ensuring Research Integrity Conference Grant Program supports conferences that provide a mechanism for those concerned with research integrity to meet to discuss topics related to promoting the responsible conduct of research, preventing research misconduct, and/or addressing issues that arise after an allegation of research misconduct is brought forward at an institution. The experts convened for these meetings are frequently from diverse areas of research, education, administration, law, and government.
This notice of funding opportunity announcement solicits applications for projects to plan and implement conferences on research integrity and compliance with 42 C.F.R. Part 93. In-person and virtual conferences, or a combination of both, will be considered for funding.
Conferences must be designed to provide a forum for discussion and produce tangible outcomes related to at least one of the following themes: 1) fostering an environment that promotes research integrity and the responsible conduct of research; 2) prevention of research misconduct; 3) effective handling of research misconduct allegations; 4) training in the responsible conduct of research; or 5) other topics linked to research integrity and compliance with 42 C.F.R. Part 93.
ORI anticipates funding two to four one-year awards of between $25,000 and $50,000 in total costs (direct plus indirect).
