Laboratory safety regulations are typically administered by the Environmental Health and Safety Department (EH&S). The EH&S Department is a great source of information and is always willing to help and assist researchers conduct their research in a safe manner.
Typical responsibilities or oversight of the EH&S department include all areas of the university (laboratories, offices, facilities operations, etc). With respect to laboratory safety the EH&S department will offer advice and assistance in many areas.
- General Chemical Hygiene and Safety (basic rules, personal protective equipment, hazardous waste disposal, ...)
- Laboratory Facilities (safety equipment, ventilation, ...)
- Standard Operating Procedures (hazardous chemicals, ...)
- Other (respiratory protection, sharps disposal, confined space, equipment safety, ...)
Researchers must work closely with the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Department regarding any general laboratory safety concerns.
