![Poster Presentation](images/site_text_writing_pos.gif)
A well designed poster will grab the attention of a moving audience and quickly orient the reader with easily identifiable sections. A poster presentation is not pasting an academic paper on poster board. A poster uses images and brief blocks of text to communicate the essence of your work.
Less is More
- Choose one central question to address
- Choose one clear take home message
- Leave plenty of white space. It is as important as the content in keeping people interested and drawing attention to items on the board.
Planning
- Give yourself plenty of time. Something invariably goes wrong
- Use separate cards or sheets of paper to sketch your ideas for each section
Title
- Create interest without being flippant. Humor can backfire in this situation
- Be brief and to the point
- Use San Serif 80- 96 Point Font
- It should be readable from 10-15 feet
Arrangement
- Make sure there is a logical flow from Introduction to Conclusion
- A right to left arrangement works best
- Arrows can also be used to guide the reader and add interest
- Bulleted points are easier to scan than big blocks of text
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
- Use pictures, diagrams and charts
- Use large items that can be scanned quickly to grasp your idea and attract people to come closer to read more detail
- Looking for pictures, graphs and illustrations is time consuming so plan ahead. The internet is a boundless resource.
Use Color Well
- Light neutral background colors are easiest on the eye
- Make sure there is enough contrast between the background color and lettering
- Use only a few harmonious accent colors
- Use color to show relationships between different parts
- Avoid overly bright colors that distract from your content
- Consult your advertising friends on the psychology of color
