Peer reviewers should (cont.):

Be respectful. Reviewers should be careful not to use the cloak of anonymity as a forum for unsubstantiated or irrelevant criticisms. Reviewers should avoid ad hominem attacks and dismissive, categorical, or negative language, focusing instead on the work itself. They should consider how they would feel in receiving such a review. Well-written peer reviews, even those with significant concerns, need not be hurtful.
