Although conflicts of interest are inevitable in research, not all researchers pursue personal interests at the expense of professional obligations.

Examples of unethical action that result from personal interests include, but are not limited to:

  • Falsifying research data in order to advance one’s career
  • Delaying review of a competitor’s manuscript to allow one’s own manuscript to be published first.
