ANOVA Results for Experiments – Overall Effects and Effect Sizes Statistics
Significance tests for the ANOVA effects from an experimental design are necessary, but not sufficient to convey the results of an experiment. For example, extremely large samples can result in 'statistically significant' main factor effects, or effects for specific contrasts, but not convey how large of an effect is produced by the causal agent. Researchers are now expected to report the amount of change in the outcome variable induced by the treatment effects, the effect size.
