HANDLING RESEARCH MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT

Session Objectives: The proposed one-day training session aims to familiarize participants with common issues and processes associated with handling allegations of research misconduct. Participants will acquire an in-depth understanding of common issues and themes, and, as members of working groups, will generate draft recommendations that could be adapted to diverse settings.

All groups will receive the same scenario describing a hypothetical research misconduct allegation.

Group 1 will emphasize Receiving an Allegation of Research Misconduct, and will draft a plan of action for an appropriate process, taking diverse settings into account.

Group 2 will emphasize Improving Institutional Systems for Conducting Research Misconduct Proceedings, and will draft recommendations relevant to diverse institutional settings.

Group 3 will emphasize Ensuring an Adequate and Fair Hearing Process for Complainants/Respondents, and will draft recommendations that can be adapted to various settings.

Group 4 will emphasize Ensuring Fairness in Notifications and Reporting, and will draft recommendations with potential for universal application.
