Researchers conducting studies involving human subjects have, but are not limited to, ten primary responsibilities. They must:

  • Acknowledge and accept responsibility for protecting the rights and welfare of human subjects in their studies
  • Comply with applicable institutional policies and government regulations
  • Delay involvement of human subjects until written approval without contingencies has been received from the IRB
  • Possess adequate skills and adhere to high ethical standards
