Researchers, scholars, and students should strive to (cont.):

  • Correct errors by drawing a thin line through the erroneous entry and inserting an initialed, dated correction nearby, accompanied by an explanation for the change. Data should not be changed by removing or inserting pages, erasing entries, or using whiteout (Malilay and Mueting, 1995)
  • Permanently affix additional documentation, such as printouts, graphs, photographs, and drawings, to the notebook pages with a signature and date running across both the added material and the notebook page (Malilay and Mueting, 1995)
