Disclosure of potential conflicts of interest and commitment during initial negotiations and as they arise during the collaboration is important to protecting researchers’ reputations from potentially harmful allegations of unethical behavior. Allegations against a single researcher in a collaborative study may taint the entire collaboration and all its participants.
