Clearly defined responsibilities of each group as a whole and of each individual within the group that are articulated to all collaboration participants at the beginning help to avoid confusion and to ensure smooth coordination of activities. Responsibilities should address issues such as:

  • Which group will be responsible for certain hardware or software contributions to a larger study and to what extent
  • Who will be the principal investigator on any grant proposal
  • Who will submit progress reports to funding agencies
  • Who will authorize submission of manuscripts
