Feedback for "Appropriate Statistical Methodology to Compare pre- and post-study Results" Scenario Reviewed

The appropriate answer is Paired t-test.

In this case, the authors' were correct in their selection of statistical test. Since the two sets of observations (pre and post) are 'within' each volunteer, they are correlated (dependent) and this needs to be incorporated in selecting the appropriate statistical test. The pooled t-test is applicable for two independent sets of observations. But in this project, a paired t-test would be the appropriate statistical test of choice. The authors had previously sought out help from a statistician to choose an appropriate statistical test to assess whether the new instrument is better than the standard one. Otherwise, the results obtained from the analysis would be misleading.
