Section Five: Animals in Research

CASE STUDY: Recovery and Multiple Use

Question the use of animals, the number of animals and species used.

This choice is ethically required. The number of animals and species must be clarified in the protocol, including literature cites or information on statistical design that substantiates the need for a particular number and species. The species should be shown to be the most appropriate for the training. Is there a non-animal alternative or a less sentient appropriate animal model? The scientific purpose or need for this particular type of training should be explained in the protocol.
