In addition to the 9 RCR topics listed above, additional ones are faced by characters throughout the novel that include: authorship decisions, data ownership, mentoring rights and responsibilities, confidentiality in peer review, and whistle-blowing. We also include information on the institutional and federal policies that guide behavior. This information is included at the close of each chapter as you move through two sets of questions: Discussion and Reflection and Integration. The purpose of Discussion and Reflection Questions is to revisit the chapter through the eyes of characters and consider how you believe the characters should have responded. The purpose of the Integration Questions is to learn what the field of research ethics "says" about particular topics by accessing policies, guidelines and codes of ethics created throughout the research world.
